I asked a district leader what his ideal classroom looked like, and he responded, “It’s hard to put my finger on it, but I know it when I see it.” His response is common but also problematic. Think about it for a minute: If you were a teacher in the school and your administrator couldn’t articulate what desired teaching and learning looks like, how would you ever know if you knew how to or if you even could meet the expectations?
